Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Olympia Chimney Crown Repair: The White Plains Owner’s Guide

Olympia Chimney crown repair in White Plains typically runs $380-$720 installed, depending on whether we’re resurfacing a cracked concrete crown or pouring a new one over a badly spalled base. We stock Olympia Chimney-compatible crown sealants and reinforcement mesh on every truck, and most crown repairs are completed in a single visit once scheduled. Homeowners usually notice the problem after a hard rain, when water starts dripping down the firebox or they spot dark staining on the ceiling near the chimney breast in their upstairs hallway.

Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To

Olympia Chimney manufactures stainless steel chimney liner systems and venting components, but the concrete crown sits atop your masonry chimney and protects the entire flue assembly beneath it. If your home in White Plains has an Olympia liner installed, the crown still needs to be sound to keep water from degrading the mortar joints and the liner’s top termination. We’ve serviced Olympia Chimney installations throughout the Gedney Farm neighborhood and near the White Plains High School area, where liner systems from the 4000 and 5000 series were commonly retrofitted into 1920s and 1950s masonry.

To identify your specific setup, check the metal tag on the liner itself, usually visible from the firebox or through the damper throat. The tag lists the liner diameter, alloy grade, and installation date. For crown repair purposes, what matters most is the liner’s outer diameter and whether it exits through a standard square flue tile or a custom thimble. We carry crown-forming materials compatible with liner terminations from 5-inch to 10-inch diameters. Olympia Chimney’s OEM crown wash compounds are available through their distribution network, but we’ve found that a properly formulated polymer-modified cement with embedded fiberglass mesh outperforms the factory mix in Westchester’s freeze-thaw cycle. Hearthstone Chimney Co. is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Olympia Chimney.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks spreading across the crown surface. These start as thin as a pencil line but widen each winter as water freezes in them. In White Plains, where January temperatures routinely drop below 20°F, a cracked crown can take in enough moisture to damage the flue liner below within two or three heating seasons.
  • Chunks of concrete missing from the crown edge. Called spalling, this happens when water gets behind the surface layer and pushes it off during freeze cycles. Once the edge is compromised, water runs directly down into the chimney structure rather than being shed away from it.
  • Water dripping into the firebox during or after rain. This means the crown has lost its waterproofing integrity entirely. The water may be traveling down the outside of the Olympia liner, corroding the termination cap and saturating the surrounding brickwork.
  • Efflorescence, the white powdery staining on exterior brick below the crown. This is mineral salt left behind as water evaporates out of the masonry. It tells us water is entering through the crown and moving through the wall system, which will eventually cause the mortar to crumble.
  • The crown slopes toward the flue instead of away from it. A properly built crown has a minimum 2-inch overhang beyond the chimney wall and slopes downward at the edges. When the crown settles or was originally poured flat, water pools and finds its way in. We’ve seen this exact flaw in several Gedney Farm colonials where the original builder cut corners in the 1960s.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in White Plains
Crown resurfacing with polymer-modified cement (cracks under 1/4 inch, solid base) $380-$520
Partial rebuild, reinforcement mesh, new pour (spalled edges, minor structural loss) $520-$650
Full crown removal and replacement (severe deterioration, compromised base) $650-$720
Olympia liner termination cap inspection and reseal (if needed) $85-$140

What drives the range is the condition of the concrete base beneath the surface damage, the accessibility of the chimney top, and whether the flue tile or Olympia liner termination needs resealing at the same time. Our estimate includes the Level-2 camera inspection to document liner condition, the material and labor for the crown work, and cleanup. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Every crown repair carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check the crown from the ground with binoculars for obvious cracking or missing pieces. You can also verify whether water is entering by taping a piece of aluminum foil inside the firebox after a rain to see if moisture collects behind it.

What you should not do is climb onto the roof to apply sealant yourself. Crown repair requires working at height on a sloped surface, often with power tools and wet cement. More importantly, the wrong material, a common mistake, traps moisture instead of shedding it. We’ve torn off plenty of homeowner “repairs” done with standard caulk or driveway sealer that accelerated the damage. The polymer-modified cements we use are formulated for chimney crowns specifically, with expansion coefficients matched to the underlying concrete and the freeze-thaw reality of White Plains winters. Call (914) 603-1360 and we’ll give you a straight assessment of whether the job is worth doing yourself or best left to someone with the right materials and a harness.
